Upload and manage images

Files is where the images and video used across your Space live. Product imagery from Shopify comes in with your catalogue; this is for everything else — campaign photography, logos, video, anything you add yourself.

Upload a file

Open Files and upload. You can organise into folders, which is worth doing before you have hundreds of them rather than after.

Use a file in a Block

Add an image or video block to a cube and pick the file. Nothing appears on your storefront until that block is on a Version and published.

Changing an image that is already in use

There is no replace

You cannot swap one file for another behind the blocks using it. A block points at a specific file, and uploading a new version does not update anything.

So changing an image that is already live means:

1. Upload the new file.

2. Find every block using the old one.

3. Update each of them to point at the new file.

4. Publish those blocks.

On one cube that is a minute’s work. Across fifty, it is an afternoon.

Decide before it spreads

Two habits save that afternoon:

• Get the file right before it is widely used. Cropping and quality are much cheaper to fix at upload time.
• For anything appearing in many places, use a shared block rather than the same image added separately to each cube. Then there is one thing to change instead of fifty.
