Pinning cubes

Pinning puts a cube at the start of a feed, regardless of what the ranking would have done. Unlike stars, it is not a hint — it is a position.

There are two places to pin, and they do different things.

Pin to the home feed

Open Feed Configuration and add pinned cubes. They appear at the start of the home feed for everyone.

Use it for what has to be seen regardless: a launch, a campaign, a seasonal message.

Pin to a structure feed

Open the Structure and use Pin Cubes to Collection Feed. Those cubes appear at the start of that Structure’s feed only.

The home feed is unaffected. This is how you lead a collection with something specific — the hero product of a category, or this week’s arrival within it.

Pinning and adding are different

Caution

Adding a cube to a Structure and pinning it to that Structure’s feed are two separate actions on the same screen.

Adding puts a cube in the Structure — it becomes part of that collection. Pinning moves one to the front of the feed. A pinned cube still needs to be in the Structure.

Pin sparingly

Every pinned cube is one the ranking cannot move. Pins ignore freshness, so a returning visitor sees the same pinned cards every time, however often they have already swiped past them.

A feed that is mostly pinned is a fixed list, and loses the thing that makes it worth having.

Two habits help:

• Pin for a reason with an end date. A campaign, a launch, a season.
• Unpin when it is over. Nothing reminds you, and a pin outlives the reason for it.
