Redirect your bare domain
People often type yourstore.com without the www. Once www.yourstore.com
is connected, Rubikc can send those visitors there, keeping the rest of the
address they typed. It takes one record and works with every DNS provider.
This is optional, and only for a www domain. A domain such as
shop.yourstore.com has no matching bare domain to redirect.
Before you start
Section titled “Before you start”www.yourstore.com must already be Active on the Domain screen. Until it
is, Rubikc refuses to serve the bare domain.
If your bare domain runs your existing shop or another site, leave it alone: this record moves all of its traffic to Rubikc.
If yourstore.com is itself in your Custom Domains list, connected with an
ALIAS or ANAME record, it cannot also be redirected. The fourth step says
Not available until you remove it from the list.
Add the record
Section titled “Add the record”On Settings › Domain, the www domain shows a fourth step, Optional:
redirect yourstore.com, with the value to copy.
| Field | Value |
|---|---|
| Type | A |
| Name / Host | Your bare domain. Many providers write it as @ |
| Value | Shown in Rubikc — copy it |
Leave the three www records exactly as they are.
Check it
Section titled “Check it”Check looks the record up, and the fourth step shows Matches once it is right. If the record is correct but Wrong value stays, open Latest DNS probe details: an old A or AAAA record is still there next to the new one.
Then open http://yourstore.com in a browser. The first visit can take a few
seconds while the certificate is issued. After that it is instant, and the
certificate renews on its own.
If it does not redirect
Section titled “If it does not redirect”- Your old site still loads. DNS has not caught up yet, or an old A record is still in place. Wait, then check again.
- The browser shows a certificate error.
www.yourstore.comis not Active, or the record has only just taken effect. Confirm the badge, wait a minute, and reload. - You are removing the
wwwdomain. Change the bare domain’s record at the same time. Rubikc stops renewing its certificate, so the redirect breaks within a few months if the record stays.
